Division 2 West
Carmarthen Athletic 35 Llanybydder 6
The Athletic showed why they are one of the promotion favourites with a comfortable victory over a gritty Llanybydder . They scored 5 converted tries as they varied their play well in the heavy conditions, the visitors replying with 2 penalties for fly-half Steff Richards. Left wing Gethin Francis opened the scoring after a flowing three quarter move, with excellent No 8 Richard Bloomfield adding the second from close range. Llanybydder openside Liam Fitzpatrick was then red carded following a fracas, with the home team’s Josh Watson yellow carded in the same incident. Soon after his return right wing Watson intercepted a Llanybydder backs move and ran in a try from half-way. Then on the stroke of half-time , following a period of pressure, home full-back Robbie Thomas crossed for the bonus point try.
Credit must be given to the visitors as they battled bravely in the second period to avoid a heavier defeat. The pack won a fair share of possession , with scrum-half Jac Thomas varying play well, however the well-drilled Athletic defence gave no opportunities. The only score of the half went to right wing Watson to give a final score of 35 – 6. Next week, Llanybydder entertain Pontyberem in a League encounter, the first of three consecutive home League matches
