Early League leaders Tenby were the visitors to OJ Park on Saturday, in an entertaining match. Llanybydder had the advantage of the elements in the first half, and started strongly with the front row gaining early dominance in the set-pieces. Tenby looked to keep ball in hand with inside centre Morgan Griffiths carrying well, and full-back Johnny Morgan looking to run at every opportunity. 2 early penalties for home wing Steff Davies gave Bydder an early lead, before a penalty, a disputed try and conversion all for visiting fly-half Toby Smith brought the visitors back into match . The home team replied with an excellent break by centre Elia Pellegrotti with a superbly timed pass to wing Steff Davies leading to a score. Tenby responded with a period of pressure leading to an individual break and try for centre Griffiths, converted by Smith. Another penalty for Steff Davies made the half time score 14 – 17 to the visitors.
Tenby had the wind advantage in the second period, but Llanybydder battled bravely to stay in the match despite injuries to scrum half Llyr James, centres Evans and Pellegrotti, and a recurring shoulder problem for Tom Wilson. Dan Hage, back from his travels came on as replacement , and fitted in well in his first match of season, whilst there were a few late trademark charges from Rhys Morris. Tenby scored 2 further tries , both from their own half, with centre Griffiths and lock Alex Thomas claiming the scores, both converted by fly-half Smith. Dion Thomas , who had moved from full-back to scrum half claim an opportunist try for the home side, again converted by Davies, leading to a final score of 31 – 21 to the visitors.
The bonus point victory lead to Tenby remaining joint top of League, whilst Llanybydder look forward to their visit to Tumble next weekend.
