Hard work by the home groundstaff ensured the match went ahead after heavy rain showers on Friday and Saturday morning. The visitors Pontarddulais played some excellent rugby in the heavy conditions with both forwards and backs off-loading well , demonstrating why they are top of the table and one of the favourites for promotion. Ex-captain Gary Evans ensured some clean line-out ball for the home side, but an early injury to important ball-carrier No 8 Ricky Davies disrupted Llanybydder’s attacks. Both sides had their share of possession , but it was Pontarddulais who had the extra confidence and clinical edge to score 6 tries compared to 3 for the home side.
Busy hooker Harri Wilson crossed for the home side in the first half, while blind-side Chris Powell scored in the second half following a break from captain Stuart Phillips. Then with the final move of the match, right wing Ross Holder crossed following an excellent cross-field kick from fly-half Dion Thomas. 2 of the tries were converted by stand-in kicker Elia Pellegrotti. Half-backs Adrian Killa and Jonathan Lloyd crossed for a try each for Pontarddulais, with further tries coming from Paul Greary, Mathew Jones and a brace for Craig Davies. There were 5 conversions for Jonathan Lloyd to make the final score 40 – 19 for the visitors.
Next Saturday , Llanybydder entertain Pontyberem at OJ Park.
