After a minute’s silence in memory of club stalwart Graham Wilson, both teams served up a feast of open rugby. Llanybydder started on fire, with forwards and backs interplaying and offloading throughout the match. 2 early tries from mobile prop Mathew Evans, and lock Gary Evans set the tone, soon followed by a rampaging Gavin Boak. Another flowing move led to outstanding man of the match blindside Carwyn Evans adjudged to have put a foot in touch as he was touching down. 2 conversions and a penalty for fly-half Tom Wilson led to a half time score of 22- 10.
The match opened out further in the second period, with excellent referee Jason Ludgate allowing play to flow at every opportunity. Further tries were scored by skipper and openside Stuart Phillips, scrum half Dion Thomas after passing movements, whilst Boak crossed for his second after a driving lineout, and prop Alun Davies claiming the final try. 4 conversions by Tom Wilson brought the home total up to the 50 mark. The visitors plugged away throughout match, as No 8 Wayne Williams made some excellent runs, and scrum half Adrian Williams tried to up the tempo at every opportunity to bring their dangerous backs into play, leading to 5 tries. There were 4 conversions and one penalty for captain Mike Sauro with the match ending 50 – 36 in favour of the home side.
