Credit to the Athletic groundstaff for ensuring the match was playable after the recent heavy rain. On a very heavy surface, both teams gave maximum effort throughout the 80 minutes, but it was the home side who ultimately ground out the victory. Both sides had periods of pressure, but it was the Athletic who kept their composure as the visitors ran up a heavy penalty count. Home fly-half David Evans kicked 4 excellent penalties in the muddy conditions, as well as some sizeable touchfinders. Centre Steff Davies replied with one penalty for the visitors, but missed a few longer range efforts. Both defences were excellent all afternoon, with attacking opportunities limited.
