Llanybydder 30 - Mumbles 22

Division 2 West

Llanybydder  30  Mumbles  22

Llanybydder entertained mid-table rivals Mumbles at Parc OJ,  and continued their recent improved form with a victory in an entertaining match.   It was the front row that again provided the platform with Zach Lowther, Alun Davies and Mathew Evans dominating the set-pieces and winning a number of turnovers and  penalties, allowing half-backs Dion Thomas and Llyr Tobias to control the match.   Hooker Alun Davies was nominated for Man of the match after a number of drives in open play, and he scored the first try as he proved unstoppable from 10 yards.  Centre Gary Evans continued his recent try scoring form with another score as he supported a threequarter move. Both tries converted by wing Steff Davies.   Mumbles replied with a penalty, try and conversion for fly-half Adam Nicklin to give a half-time score of 14 – 10.

Steff Davies claimed 2 further penalties eatly in the second period.  However Mumbles replied with tries from No 8 Tyler Oliver, and left wing Matthew Flynn , with one conversion by fly-half Nicklin taking them into the lead at 20 – 22.   The home team replied with sustained pressure leading to a penalty for a high tackle in the Club-house corner. Llanybydder opted for a scrum, and another solid platform led to strong carrier No8 Ricky Davies to cross for the crucial score.  A conversion and a further late penalty from Steff Davies gave a final score of 30 – 22, as the visitors were denied a deserved bonus point.
