Amman Utd 22 Llanybydder 7
Llanybydder travelled to the Amman Valley to play their first League match of the season with a much changed squad from last season after the retirement and departures of a number of stalwarts. New head coach Richard Davies gave League debuts to 7 players, as he combined some promising youngsters with a few of the experienced heads. Amman Utd had most of the territory and possession as they used the wind advantage in the first half, and took the lead from a Joel Foster penalty. The home side continued to press , but the Llanybydder defence was organized and prevented further scores, until just before the interval, when a strong home strong led to a penalty try, and a half time lead of 10 – 0
Both sides lost 2 players to yellow cards at the start of the second half for technical offences, but it was Amman who capitalized with a try for open-side Alun Lewis converted by Foster to extend the lead to 17 – 0 . A period of pressure followed for Llanybydder, and they came close to scoring on 3 occasions as the new three quarter line gained in confidence. Eventually, it was blindside Aled Tandderi Evans who powered over from a ruck, with a conversion by fly-half Steff Richards. Further pressure from Llanybydder was defended by the home side, and it was Amman who broke away with the final move of the match with a score in the left corner for Kevin Simpson.
It was a promising performance from new look Llanybydder, and supporters now look forward to the visit of Fishguard to Parc OJ next weekend.
