Pontarddulais 36 - Llanybydder 27

Division 2 West

After the Autumn break ,  travelled to Coedbach Park,  Pontarddulais to continue their League programme.   The home side are currently 2nd in the division and showed early intent as they tried to bring their pacy outside backs into play as often as possible.  Llanybydder defended well initially , and there was an early penalty apiece for home centre Liam Lazarus and Llanybydder centre Steff Richards.    A try followed for the home team’s Jamie Thomas, converted by Lazarus, followed by another penalty for Richards for the away team.    Pontarddulais then had a purple patch at end of first half, with experienced scrum-half Adrian Killa upping the tempo, leading to 3 quick tries for Craig Davies, Liam Lazurus, and Jared Walters all expertly converted by Lazarus.

The score was 31 – 6 at the interval, and the away supporters feared another heavy defeat, with skipper Ricky Davies off with a yellow card.   However, player coach Richard Davies, who played the whole match at tight-head, rallied the troups at the interval and the visitors produced arguably their best half of rugby of the season.  Following an early try for Bont’s Gareth Thomas,  visiting skipper Davies returned to the pitch, and inspired the players to play some excellent 15 man rugby.  Forwards and backs combined well leading to tries for outstanding flanker Dion Howells, hooker Harri Wilson and skipper Davies himself. All 3 tries were converted by Richards to give a final score of 36 -27.  It was a deserved bonus point victory for Pontarddulais,   but the performance gives plenty of encouragement for the visitors as they face another difficult away trip to Mumbles next Saturday.
