St Clears 7 Llanybydder 7
Llanybydder travelled to Parc Griffith Jones, St Clears where both teams deserve much credit for their efforts on a heavy pitch. The away side had first use of the breeze, but with both defences dominant , try scoring opportunities were limited. Eventually, a loop by Llanybydder fly-half Llyr Tobias created space for the outside backs, leading to a try for supporting No 8 and skipper Ricky Davies. The conversion by centre Steff Richards gave the away side a 7 – 0 lead. The home side replied with constant pressure for 10 minutes before half-time. Llanybydder prop Zach Lowther was yellow-carded after a string of penalties were conceded by the away team, St Clears declined to opt for the posts on penalty opportunities, and eventually the excellent young referee Kieran Hooper blew for half-time with the visitors leading 7 – 0.
The home side dominated possession and territory in the second period, with a more effective line-out, but brave defence by all LLanybydder’s players looked like it may give them an unlikely victory. However, a clearance kick was charged down , and the home side’s Dafydd Walters was first to react, and dived on the loose ball to secure the try. An excellent conversion by Jake Philpin as he judged the breeze to perfection, tied the scores at 7 – 7, which was the final score.
Next week, ,Llanybydder entertain Carmarthen Athletic at Parc OJ, before a break due to 6 nations matches
