After a week’s rest, Llanybydder travelled to the Gower estuary to face an unbeaten Penclawdd team. Despite missing a couple of their main ballcarriers on work duties, the away team were hopeful of a good performance. However, Llanybydder were slow out of the blocks, and the home side were soon in front when hooker Danny James followed up a clearance chargedown to cross for first try. This was converted by fly-half Dan Guarneri, who added a penalty shortly afterwards, after visiting fly-half Tom Wilson was sin-binned for an adjudged high tackle. Soon after, there was a further home try for flanker Rob Watkins, again converted by Guarneri. Wilson replied with a penalty for Llanybydder to make the interval score 17 – 3.
After some stern words by the coaches at the interval, Llanybydder played with more purpose in the 2nd half. As the referee became stricter at the breakdown area, there were further yellow cards for prop Mathew Evans and stand-in lock Harri Wilson, and with the home side also receiving 3 yellows, both sides struggled to gain any fluidity. Llanybydder took advantage of one period of numerical advantage when from a scrum No 8 Carwyn Evans fed scrum half Dion Thomas who accelerated away to feed Tom Wilson to cross for a try which he converted himself. However a late penalty from home fly half Guaneri ensured the visitors left without a bonus point.
Next week, Llanybydder host Tycroes, with an early kick-off to be confirmed due to Wales World Cup match.
