Llanybydder 28 Neyland 31
An entertaining rugby match at OJ Park was eventually won by the visitors, as both team secured bonus points. Llanybydder opened the scoring when centre Llyr James intercepted a loose pass to score under the posts, converted by fly-half Llyr Tobias. Neyland had some exciting young backs, always looking to play at a fast tempo, and they were soon rewarded with 3 quick tries to take a 17 – 7 lead. Right wing Henry McBeth crossed twice, either side of an excellent individual try by enterprising full-back Patrick Bellerby. The home side responded with their scrum gaining ascendancy and skipper Ricky Davies crossed for 2 fine tries , both converted by Tobias to give LLanybydder a 21 – 17 lead at the interval.
The second half continued at a fast pace, and it was visiting hooker Gavin Campbell who crossed first . Llanybydder responded with a period of pressure, but Neyland’s defence held firm, and a loose ball in their own half was hacked on by the Neyland centres, enabling Alex Codd to claim the crucial score. Fly half George Evans converted 3 of the visitors tries. There was still time for home skipper Ricky Davies to complete his hat-trick, and the conversion by Tobias ensured a final score of 31 – 28 for the visitors.
It was pleasing to see lock John Evans and scrum-half Jac Thomas make their comebacks from long term injuries for Llanybydder, who now look forward to welcoming Pembroke Dock Quins next Saturday
