Division 3 West A
Llanybydder 45 Tregaron 0
Llanybydder welcomed historical rivals Tregaron to Parc OJ for their first home League match of the season. The visitors were looking for an improvement after their home defeat to Neyland, whilst Llanybydder were struggling after a number of early season injuries to key players. The early exchanges were equal , Tregaron missed an early penalty before centre Steff Richards slotted a penalty for the home side. The lead was extended after good work from an attacking scrum by No 8 Ricky Davies and scrum half Llyr James released full-back Dan Garside to cross. The lead was extended as prop Zach Lowther crossed for a rare try, soon followed by a further try for blindside Bleddyn Jones as he followed up a quickly taken penalty by skipper Ricky Davies. Steff Richards slotted 3 excellent conversions to give the hosts a comfortable 24 – 0 lead. Influential centre Arwel Thomas was then shown a red card after an incident in the tackle area, reducing the hosts to 14 men.
Llanybydder continued to dominate the 2nd half, but credit to Tregaron as they bravely battled till the final whistle. There were 2 tries for captain Ricky Davies as reward for another fine performance, with fly-half Llyr Tobias also crossing after an excellent run by Bleddyn Jones ,now playing in the centre. Steff Richards capped a faultless kicking display with another 3 conversions to give a final score of 45 – 0. There was further drama as home flanker Liam Fitzpatrick was dismissed following a fracas. The loudest cheers of the day were reserved for Llanybydder’s veteran replacements Rob Dyer and Adrian Thomas , both coming out of retirement due to the injury situation, and took the field in the last 10 minutes. Thanks to match sponsors Evans Bros Ltd, and Wilson Timber Ltd for their continued support.
Llanybydder are without a match next weekend as they have a bye in the Cup, whilst Tregaron are due to host Cefneithin in the first round of the Bowl.
